Aren't Leaders Supposed to Lead?

I hate to keep harping on what I perceive to be a very sore subject among the thousands of American people I come in contact with on a weekly basis. That is the absolute loss of trust in the leadership of our government. People simply don't believe our leaders in congress and the White House have their best interests at heart. Why? Are they all just part of the me first generation, concerned with their own interests and personal agendas above those of the people that elected them to office? Why is it that decent Americans across this country give to their chosen charities, support their churches and step up to the plate when disasters occur like those in Haiti, Chile and New Orleans, yet our political leaders appear to be oblivious to the needs of these same people. Have our political offices become a place where good people are corrupted, or are we just not sending good people into office?
